Roberto Benigni: A very funny Italian

When the film "Life is Beautiful" came out and then won multiple Oscars, it solidified Roberto Benigni's status as a great entertainer, director, creator and actor. The first time I came across his talents was an independent film "Down by Law" which also starred Tom Waits. I found Benigni to be naturally funny and I became a fan ever since. Here is a highlight scene. If you like his more popular movies, I recommend you to review this flick.

There is another film by the name of "Night on Earth" in which Benigni is a cab driver in Rome. He picks up a priest and proceeds to confess his sins while driving........ hilarious. Check it out.

Primitivo Wines

For those not familiar with the primitivo grape, it has the same genetic make-up as the zinfandel grape. The initial origins of both grapes come from Croatia. Although they may be identical in theory, the wines they produce have distinct differences.

Primitivo's home province is Apuglia (sometimes called Puglia), located in the "heel" of Italy's boot. Wines made from Primitivo have notes of plum and spice, like Zinfandel, but because of different growing soils and climate, the fruit character is less jammy, the structure more akin to old world wines, with rustic notes of earth and spice, as well as tamed fruit flavors.
Common Descriptors:

  • Jammy

  • Brambly

  • Chocolate

  • Rustic

You can find the following Primitivo Wines at select Doris Market locations:

A Mano: Coral Springs, Boca Raton, Pembroke Pines

Cantine Due Palme Primitivo: Coral Springs

Casa Vino: Hollywood, Coral Springs, Boca Raton, Pembroke Pines

Misteri Primitivo: Coral Springs
