Happy Mother's Day!
With Mother's Day approaching, I thought I would dedicate this post to my mom as well as all mothers out there. One of the many characteristics of my mom that makes me truly feel blessed to have her in my life is her ability to love unconditionally.
I remember as a child, I was sitting in the kitchen and my mom was there as well folding clothes or preparing a meal. I asked her, "Who's your favorite?" I have four other siblings in my family and at that age, I thought it was a legitimate question. Her answer was quick and unflinching. "I love you all the same." The fact that she had no favorites left me a little befuddled.
Growing up, we had favorites in everything; favorite toys, foods, movies, and friends, so while I believed my mom, I had a hard time accepting it at that age. So life went on and and my little question to my mom remained in my head.
Nearly 30 years have passed sinced I asked that question and I think I can honestly say that my mom told me the truth. Having 5 kids is no walk in the park. And yet, when we all went through similar milestones in our lives, my mom handled them all the same, with honest love. While my mom's relationships may differ slightly with each of her kids, her love is the same, devoted, proud and unconditional.
My mom could be crashed on the couch, tired with aches & pains, but the moment one of her kids walk through her door, she jumps up with life and wants to feed us. I cannot begin to tell you how blessed I feel to have a woman care for me for so long, and even though we have flown the coop, her love still knows no limits. I am grateful.
While I have heard many say that they have a favorite child, I take comfort knowing that my mom has enough to go around and then some. Happy Mother's Day Mommy, I love you......
If you have any fond mother memories to share, please do so.
